UNIVERSITY CHAPLAINCY SECOND SEMESTER (JAN TO MARCH 2021)
- CONNECT WITH YOUR CATHOLIC CHAPLAINS AND YOUR STUDENT CATHOLIC SOCIETY: It’s not an easy time, and students are experiencing a lot of isolation and anxiety, whether they are at home with family or in student accommodation. We encourage you to connect with your chaplains and your CathSocs, for one-to-one remote support, and to join the remote activities that are taking place this semester. See the list of chaplains here: universitycatholic.net/chaplaincy/chaplains/ and the list of CathSocs here: www.universitycatholic.net/colleges/ Please don’t be alone – our chaplains and CathSocs are here to support you!
- STAY AT HOME: Current guidelines say that we should stay at home unless we have a legitimate reason to leave. We encourage all students to follow this advice for their own safety and the safety of others.
- ONLINE EVENTS: We will send round a separate post with a full list of our online activities this term. Make sure you like our Facebook page facebook.com/newmanhouselondon and our Instagram page www.instagram.com/newmanhouselondon/
- ATTENDANCE AT MASS: We remind you that there is currently no obligation for Catholics to attend Sunday Mass. You should not come to Mass if you are unable to travel safely, or if your health is vulnerable in any way, or if you feel it is a significant risk in any way. We are following Government guidelines, which at the time of writing (9 Jan 2021) recognise that communal worship can be a legitimate reason to leave home, and that it can be done safely. If you are unsure about the reasons why churches are still open at this time, please see the helpful letter by Bishop John Sherrington here: cbcew.org.uk/bishop-on-role-of-catholic-churches-during-current-lockdown/
- ST ALOYSIUS: We will continue our Sunday evening student Mass at St Alosyisus at 7.30pm (Phoenix Road, NW1 1TA) for those who live nearby and who can walk there safely. CONFESSIONS are available from 6.45pm before Mass. We will apply our normal Covid-safe rules at St Aloysius with extra vigilance. We remind you that there is no mixing between households or mingling after Mass. If it is easier or safer to go to Mass at your local parish church, then we encourage you to do that. If there any changes in Government advice about communal worship then of course we will follow that and let you know
- LIVE STREAMING OF MASS: For those unable to attend Mass in person for any reason, we are live streaming a Mass for students from Newman House on most days. The normal timetable is: Mon to Fri at 5.30pm, Sundays at 11am. See the Pause for Faith YouTube channel for the links to each Mass: youtube.com/c/PauseforFaith
